Compliance packets
A compliance packet is the point where your everyday Life Safety work becomes a record you can hand to someone else.
Use it when you need to preserve what your compliance program looked like at a specific moment — including inspections, deficiencies, corrective work, and approvals.
What a compliance packet does
Section titled “What a compliance packet does”A packet captures a point-in-time snapshot of your Life Safety record. The dashboard continues changing as inspections are completed and new work is created; the packet preserves the state of the record when it was made.
| Use the dashboard for | Use a packet for |
|---|---|
| Current overdue items | A specific inspection or review date |
| Upcoming inspections | An insurer or auditor request |
| Active deficiencies | A reporting-period record |
| Corrections waiting on action | A stable internal compliance archive |
When to create one
Section titled “When to create one”Common checkpoints include an annual or periodic inspection, insurance review, internal compliance review, audit or documentation request, or the close of a meaningful reporting period.
You do not need to wait until someone asks. Creating packets at planned checkpoints can make later reviews much easier.
Review the record before creating the packet
Section titled “Review the record before creating the packet”A packet preserves the record you have. It does not fix missing documentation automatically.
Before creating one, review:
- Overdue inspections — is anything still waiting to be checked?
- Open deficiencies — does every failure have corrective work?
- Pending approvals — are completed corrections still waiting for verification?
- Evidence gaps — are notes, photos, or documents missing where they are needed to explain a deficiency?
Why the point-in-time record matters
Section titled “Why the point-in-time record matters”Compliance questions are often historical: What was the documented condition at the time of the review? A preserved packet gives you a stable reference for that date instead of relying on a live screen that continues to change.
Build the record before you need it
Section titled “Build the record before you need it”The quality of the packet depends on the workflow that came before it:
Inspect → document failures → complete corrective work → verify and approve → preserve the record.
If those steps stay current during normal operations, producing compliance documentation becomes routine rather than a last-minute search for proof.
